It was during an afternoon of March 2012, when I was coming out of the coaching class and heading to take my lunch from any restaurant I could find. So I headed out to this one restaurant that serves a regular thaali and south indian dishes. I was drooling over for a masala dosa so enquired of they are serving the dish for lunch. Once confirming I booked a seat in this restuarant and waited for a waiter to take the order. This one guy attends to me and he looked quite distracted with chaos around the restaurant with many coming possibly being lunch time of the day. I had to reiterate my order to him that included the dish, juice and other side items shown in the menu. He took the order, however it took me an rough 40 minutes to get my dish served on my table. This waiter went one dish at a time to serve by placing on my table and heading back to the kitchen to get another. So it takes another 7 minutes and I finally have all I needed. I was so caught up by the chaos and the delay that I took it real slow to complete my lunch. Once done, I immediately signalled for the Bill. As the bill arrives I left a change of 40 INR as a tip and paid the bill, whilst I had seen two other customers putting a couple of 10s and leaving. I thought that atleast the lunch was great and probably the waiter was having a rough time. But to my surprise, the waiter was observing at a distance and rushes to me as I stand up to leave saying “Sahab, sau rupiye toh dho, aaj bahut bheed hai, itne se kya hoga” - Sir , please tip 100 INR as its a crowded time, what will I do with this you have given ? I was like out of courtesy I paid to this much else I would be like others giving 10s and you are asking this much. He starts to act wierd and pitch in the status quo, saying that most “rich” folks should be courteous enough to pay more, as he thinks I look well off , being properly dressed with college bag. The problem he thinks I may belong to the rich families affording to go to college or pay heavy tuition fees, so he can bargain for more. Well I like to dress nicely but I am not from any rich bckground but understanding how things are for such work life as a waiter, I atleast showed some gesture this time. So we go back and forth speaking on status, philiosphy and by them I just stormed out leaving the 40 INR change. I felt it was unethical as if a customer gives you a tip, you graciously accept or decline, either in their presence or absence. I would not appreciate to argue or be adamant to demand more, provided the bill already covers your restaurants services and VAT. I felt strange, however this was just that one incident.

In a pure democracy, the cast of Dancing With The Stars would be president.That's what makes Trump Derangement Syndrome so hilarious. After the election, everyone twirled about in confusion and "realized" that their neighbor Timmy who voted for Trump is a secret FASCIST.It's not that Hillary was an unlikable candidate and ran a horrible, disjointed campaign and got beaten by a blowhard. The fun and exciting version is that "Trump activated his white supremacist base." The same people that elected Obama twice are apparently white supremacists. I’m surprised nobody has commented on lying at MEPS. You have two choices. You can either do what your recruiter told you to do, and LIE to everyone, or you can tell the truth. The decision you make decides the outcome of your entire Enlistment experience. Think of this like one of those choose your own adventure stories. I’m going to tell you how both go, since I had the honor of going through MEPS twice.Option 1. You tell the truthSo I first enlisted to join the Marines, and my recruiter, shady as he was, told me to be honest while I was in MEPS. So when I got to the questionnaire where you have to fill out your medical history, I was honest…I wrote down that I had headaches sometimes, vertigo, had been depressed for a while, thought about suicide (because what teenager hadn’t at one point in High School), etc. I was pretty damn honest. Well, The doctors weren’t having it I guess because I got disqualified based on past history, and couldn’t join.Option 2. You lie.So my second go around, I decided to join the Army. This time, my recruiter tells me to lie…”I don’t care if you’ve got AIDS, Cancer, etc…just say you’re normal so you can get in”. So that’s what I do. every box on every form that had something negative (history of heart problems in family history? Nope. History of Depression? Nope). No NO NO NO NO NO NO. Read the big ass sign on the wall saying “Failure to answer truthfully can result in jail/fine/etc…Signed my name and was done. I shipped off to basic training a few months later.You need to decide for you how your MEPS experience goes, try to be honest, because certain things (like your chronic Asthma) they’ll find out sooner or later…and if they find out you lied once you’re in Basic or After, the punishment for lying will be a lot stiffer.Good luck…I wont rehash what others wrote…MEPS is an ALL Day affair, like 5AM - 5PM. sometimes it can take multiple visits…it’s cold, you get shit food, and it makes the DMV look like paradise.
