Wow several issues going on with this situation. This student is being coached, more than likely. Neither student or coach understand the reason for the paper. Reflection. They both think it's admitting fault. They both think it's a waste of time that is meaningless. I'm going to assume that the student responding is not the victim based on the snarky attitude portrayed in their paragraph. As an administrator you have to pick the hill you want to die on, this is not it for me. As the admin if the crime is "serious” then I would call the student to the office and completely ignore their written response. Act like you haven't seen it. He/she is looking for confirmation that you read it. I would ask the questions in another way to get the information neeed and then I would document them as you need them. If the crime isn't a big deal then I would move On. Your job as a principal is to encourage students to change poor behavior. For some instances that means a conversation, others detention, others a phone call home, and others suspension. While consistency is important, it's not necessary to suspend a kiddo who just needs a warning. Our position requires a balance of mercy and justice, while always remembering that the objective is to help change behavior.

I had a foster son who had a successful business selling chocolate bars at school when he was 12 years old. It is difficult to get a massive bureaucracy to wake up and see that a student who has figured out how to run a business at age 12 is a rising star that needs to be encouraged and celebrated. Why wouldn’t they have all the students learn from his business that he is operating right in their own hallways? If preparing students for a career was really the main priority of school they would. But that is not the main priority and therefore they will never celebrate that kind of individual self-taught learning. He was punished for running his business at school. A traditional school’s main priority is not to help students learn to run their own businesses. Schools seem to be more interested in keeping their own system running, and preparing students to do things that require sitting in seats for long hours and doing homework at traditional schools. Independent businesses are scary to teachers and school administrators. Teachers and administrators have filled out endless forms and agreed to work in a massive old-fashioned bureaucracy. So that is what teachers think a career is all about.Traditional school is the last place that will approve of, or encourage, a student learning to run their own business.

When I was twelve, my dad died. I have five siblings and we ranged at the time from seven years old to eighteen. The eldest was leaving for college that week, but came back and spent the year at home at my mom's request. Before Dad had been dead a whole month, my mom started sort-of dating a sort-of homeless guy (he had been homeless and then was living in an RV on someone's property as their caretaker) my family had helped before (we volunteered for years prior to this at the local homeless shelter).A month. Our father had died of unexpected of complications from heart attacks just a month prior. We four youngest didn't know what was going on at first and she didn't let our older two siblings know. All we knew was that almost every night mom would have us get in the van, and she'd be in her pajamas and robe, and we'd drive down to his place and she'd send us to go play in the yard while she "said goodnight" and "ministered" to him.Eventually she'd come out with a shit-eating smirk, load us up in the van and drive back home.Less than two months after that she moved him into the house and started claiming they were married to everyone. (They weren't.)Why this was so incredibly selfish was because we weren't allowed to grieve anymore after that. We all had to be happy because mom had a new boyfriend-then-husband, and we all felt like we couldn't even talk about Dad anymore. Mom still talked about him but only to force our good behavior, ie: "You are all such terrible children! Your father wanted you to be raised this way and I've sacrificed so much for you...!" He wasn't even a good stepdad. He could have been worse, sure, but he'd fight with mom then storm out of the house and she'd blame it on us.Less than six months after my dad died he and my mom went on a drive and left me to change a curtain rod. I was still twelve and very small for my age, and I couldn't signNow the curtain rod. I tried, hard, but I kept falling off the back of the couch. They got back and saw that I hadn't done it, so the step-dad kept saying to me "Hah, I knew you were useless." while laughing and repeating it over and over like it was hilarious. I lost my temper and said "You're just a fat old man!" (he was 13 years older than my mom so he seemed quite elderly to me.) He, in front of my mother who had been laughing at his denigration of my handyman attempts, grabbed me, shook me hard, and screamed in my face "You stupid little b***ch!" and stormed out of the house.Mom then spanked me for trying to ruin her marriage.I just wanted my dad back, but I couldn't even say that because what if it made the step-dad feel bad?

One thing that shocked me when I attended an Ivy League school is the tolerance and encouragement for faculty plagiarism. Before I attended Ivy League graduate school, I believed that higher values of morality existed in the Ivory Towers. I believed that the most brilliant minds knew and acted to preserve what is good, right and true. I know better, now.I attended Yale University Graduate School from 1990–1993. I was shocked that my advisor, Hazel Carby, was allowed to send an unauthorized copy of my original scholarship to her friend at UCLA. The friend actually performed my work at the same conference I did in front of witnesses. The UCLA professor planned to do my work for her Yale Faculty Job Talk, too. A job talk is required for an application to teach at the university. She had to change her talk at the last minute because I had filed a report with an Assistant Dean of the Yale Graduate School, whose name I’ve forgotten, my other advisor, Robert Stepto, and my program Chairman, Gerald Jaynes. After that, I wrote an elaborate Fellowship Application to Harvard University. I didn’t know that Hazel Carby and Henry Louis Gates were friends. He stole my fellowship application ideas and gave them to a Motown family connection, Brent Edwards, currently plagiarizing at Columbia University.By the time Brent got in to Harvard to start working on my Fellowship book outline, I got in Complit at UMass, and out of the Ivy League grapevine. I was determined to keep trying, although I had been blackballed.Since I came in to UMass knowing exactly what I was doing, I had already ordered the one single solitary copy of microfiche in the United States with newspapers published by in France by African Diaspora journalists from the period between WW I and WW II.I was struggling to translate the newspapers without Harvard translators when a request from the now closed Central Repository Library in Illinois that had lent me the only copy of the microfiche sent me a demand to return it because another person wanted it.I was the first person in history to ever ask for that research material. Now, there’s a rush on it?Respecting the gift of a library to society, after talking to library representatives, I sent back the microfiche along with 50.00 USD and my written request for duplication of the material.Months later, they reported the microfiche was missing! They hadn’t had a chance to duplicate it before it went missing! It remained missing for six years or so, until the summer before Brent Edwards released his book using my outline and research materials as his guide. Before I attended an Ivy League School, I thought plagiarism was something for poor students doomed to lives as failures. Before I attended an Ivy League School, I had job prospects and a fine reputation, now, not so much.

I’m not a big fan of commenting upon the laws of another country, but I was asked my opinion by Patrick Crosset, who, as far as I can tell, is French. As far as I can tell, this comes down to one of the biggest questions of our times: do we, as a society, accept homosexual people, transgender people, etc. as who they claim they are? If I discovered that I was actually a woman, wouldn’t my daughter now have two mothers? If I’d married a man and retained parental rights over my daughter, wouldn’t she have two fathers?I don’t see a reason not to change the form. It doesn’t confer upon them more rights than I have. It doesn’t harm me. It doesn’t make any actual difference.“The amendment aims to anchor into law the family diversity of children in the administrative forms submitted in school,” LREM lawmaker Valérie Petit said, according to the French outlet 20 Minutes.Works for me. If I had two parents who were both male or female for whatever reason, I would feel a lot more included than if I had to deal with the question of how to fill out some stupid government form.I’ve seen two arguments against this “substitution” thus far:It is an attack upon the value of parents as being either “father” or “mother.”It is an attack upon gender. As to the first, I don’t get it. Why does it make a difference if you get listed as “mother/father” or “parent?” Do you really have to be recognized as one of those two ideas? If you’re “demoted” to “parent,” are you somehow less? Are you being slighted? Will your kid switch to calling you, “Parent 1?” That seems a pretty weak argument. As to the second, it’s 2019. I don’t think there really needs to be a war in the name of “gender identity.” People can be whoever they want to be. Your life is a book, and you write it however you may wish. It isn’t up to others to dictate it. We all pay taxes. We’re all equal. Let it go at that. The new government form more adequately represents the people filling it out? That seems like a good idea.In addition,The amendment, which passed into law alongside a new school bill Tuesday, has been seen by France’s majority La République en Marche Party (LREM) as a necessary step to bring France’s schools into line with the European nation’s 2013 same-sex marriage law.So it isn’t even like this came from nowhere. Instead, it comes down to the same question as same-sex marriage. When do we decide that people get to make decisions for themselves and that two men or two women getting married doesn’t make my heterosexual marriage with my wife any less valid?[All quotes from Newsweek]

Over the decades, university faculty have increasingly been pushed to produce refereed publications, enable technology spin-offs, and obtain signNow external funding. These have been trends since at least the 1990s. This trend reflects the reduction in public support for higher education, and has many unfortunate side-effects on both research and teaching. We have had an increase in use of computing technology in teaching, including online syllabi, presentations, distance ed, online textbooks, etc. That was all very new and minor in 1998, but was becoming more common by 2008. In many ways, this makes teaching more effective. In the 1990s, I remember students majoring in computing who were able to discuss literature, politics, history and other sciences on a regular basis. This is now much less common — almost rare. Students know about pop culture, but don’t seem to know — or care — about other topics. This is one trend I think is unfortunate.I have seen a declining level of respect for professors by portions of the public. Scholarship and the choice to work in academia are no longer respected as they used to be.

Oh my gosh, we went through the same bullshit with my youngest and the elementary school. My youngest son was born on Dec 23, 2000, my Christmas gift. He went to school earlier than most of his fellow classmates. He was 4 years and 9 months old when he entered JK, within 2 weeks at school I got a phone call from school. His 27 yrs old teacher complained he is difficult to handle and suggested he has ADHD. I wanted to smack the FUCK out of her but didn't (please excuse my language). I allowed the school to assessed him, and went to his pediatrician and a specialist at SICK KIDS Hospital. They told me he has a mild condition of the bull crap ADHD and will outgrow once he hits his teen. Every freaking young female teachers would complained, their complaints were he has no focus, distracted the class constantly and they can't handle him. His grade 3 and 6 male teachers never once complained, they put him in the front row close to their desk so they can correct his attention. We ended up putting my son on in grade 7, because I got into an arguement with the teacher, she said he got the attitudes from me. I was pissed but I gave in and put him on , in 2 weeks, the side effects of the medication mellowed my son completely, he lost his appetite, lost 25 pounds, his sleeping habits turned into 3 hours instead of 8 hours or more. I watched my son went through a huge drastic change. I was furious and took him off and demanded a matured male teacher or I will get a lawyer and take the school to court. We won, with the help of our pediatrician and the specialists from the hospital. Don't listen to any of their comments, they are not doctors. Their job is to educate our children with subjects we can't, they are just too damn lazy to work on a smart kid and challenge his intellect. So what if a kid has no focus, work with him/her and the child's parent finding a solution.Don't put him on , find solutions, your child is 4 he can learn with a veteran well trained teacher.

I’ve also been in the club for two years, and I’m a two time ICDC qualifier and one time ICDC finalist, so I think I have a bit of expertise when it comes to DECA. Below are a couple of steps that should put you on the right track:Contact your school administration and find out how to create a generic new club or organization. Usually there are forms you have to fill out, officer teams that have to be created, advisors to be found, etc.Go to this link: Bring DECA to Your School - DECA Inc, which will redirect you to an email address - sarah_williams@deca.org. Email her and ask about starting up DECA at your local high school.*A note: usually it takes collaboration on both sides, and registration on both sides to finally establish a club. Make sure to keep communication open and effective between your school, you, and official DECA.Next, you need to figure out promotion and marketing. A club is useless without some members.Ask others for advice. This will most likely be advice from extremely successful clubs at your school. Make sure to find out how they market toward potential members.Strong, shameless advertising. As a new club, you have to be different, and offer opportunities not available in other clubs. You and I both know that DECA has plenty of extremely unique opportunities; it’s an amazing organization. You have to make the student population realize that DECA is worth joining because of the possibilities of international competition, business-literacy, etc. After you get some members, stick strong with official DECA. Make sure that you get registered with your regional DECA (if you have one), then state DECA, and finally international DECA. Also make sure to get resources for events. Many students at your new school may not have existing business knowledge, so you’ll have to guide them through the process of DECA and each and every event. Compile test banks, performance indicator guides, written event presentations, and more to make sure your members have as many resources as they need. Finally, compete and show off your business skills!Best of luck - Nik Vy(if you have any more questions private message me)
