They might appear to be your friend because once they got rid of a bad supervisor. The truth is, if it was easier to scapegoat the victim, they will. It used to be that if your skin was lighter than an brown paper lunch bag, you were white, or nearly so, and if it was darker than you were “colored”. Now, if you pass the paper bag test, you get to be a Person of Color, which means black, Hispanic, and even now Asian, I think.An since people are often myopic about race, and its rude to call black people black, we needed to make up another term. Since we got our black slaves from Africa, that means that all black people are from Africa, right? So the pubic consensus was to call blacks African American, regardless of from where they actually come.Ironically, this usage is often a touch racist in and of itself, since African American isn’t a race, per say, but a pseudo-nationality. Now, suddenly, a Haitian isn’t black, he’s African American, even if he’s never set foot on either. Or what about a black Brit? Nope, he’s African American too!Personally I think its a bit ridiculous. In an attempt not to offend anyone, we driven all nuance from race and nationality. You’ll find people on all sides who think its great, and think its stupid.I used to work with a black guy, born and raised in the US, family here for generations. If you had to call him something, he liked just being called American. If you had to be more specific, black American would do. He hated being called African American. The only time he’d ever been in Africa was when he was deployed to Somalia with the US Army. He hated Africa, and that deployment, he said, showed him that he had more in common with any American than any African. He did not enjoy that deployment.Further, the idea that African American is a race, not a pseudo-nationality, gets even more silly when you consider people like Charlize Theron. That pretty white actress? African American. Yup. She was born in South Africa, and now holds US Citizenship. It was pretty funny when she was the first African American to win some acting award, I forget which, and it created a big stir.In the quest to combat racism in the US, much subtly has been lost, under the foolish idea that being able to recognize difference is the same thing as discrimination. If you can tell on sight that a black Somali and a black Sudanian are not from the same place, some people actually consider that racist. If you can tell a Korean from a Chinese, or an Arab from a Turk, some people consider that racist. There’s even confusion about white people. Asians used to be “white”, but are POCs now. I think Hispanics are POCs, unless they can pass the paper bag test, in which case they are white. I never know if Jews are white this week or not, but it doesn’t really matter. We’re only white when its convenient for other people. And that’s just Ashkenazim. I have no idea what people consider Sephardim. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for.They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy.The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed.
