I think my best habit as a grad student is hoarding all of my research notes.  Every graduate student has nightmares that while writing their dissertation, they'll have forgotten how to derive a certain property and won't be able to retrace their steps, rendering them a complete and utter failure in life.  This system is intended to prevent that scenario and minimize time spent redoing work you've already done.Step 1: Annotate all your notes with project, date, and page number.  Yes, I know my handwriting is terrible.  That's not the point.  Take notes at all your meetings and during your independent work, even if it's just scribbles.  Trust me, your advisor will never tell you that you're writing too much down.  I've also found writing to be very helpful when my task for the day is "think about X".  It can be so easy to sit and do nothing all day, under the guise of "thinking".  My personal policy is if it isn't written down, it didn't happen.  Step 2: Track your notes and progress. I make myself fill out a sheet like this every work day to make sure I'm staying on track.  It's useful for identifying goals you did and didn't meet on a daily basis, and doubles nicely as a cover-sheet for scanning notes.  (This isn't great for tracking long-term goals, which I manage with a separate system.)Meetings and tasks get filled out the morning or the night before.  Hours worked and notes get recorded as the day goes on.  Step 3: SCAN ALL THE THINGS! This is what my "notes" folder looks like.  I used to scan daily, but lately I'm doing 1-week batches of notes.  You basically want to store notes at the granularity that you can recall your research.  Step 4: FILE ALL THE THINGS!  I'm currently at 9 large binders for about 2 years of thesis research. You don't necessarily need the physical copies if you've scanned everything, but sometimes scanned notes are a bit hard-to-read.  Besides, you can never have too many backups of your thesis materials, preferably with independent failure points.  Step 5: Profit/graduate?  Fingers crossed.

I particularly like the introductory physics texts by Giancoli. It is now in its 7th edition; I recommend you get 4th or 5th edition; they are just as good, but they are very cheap on Amazon used. That's the real key: buy very old editions of the classic texts (Halliday & Resnick is another great series).  You'll be amazed at how cheap they become.  All too often when professors inform the book store about the book they want, they have to fill in a line for "which edition".  Almost always they choose "latest". That's why the book companies keep coming out with new editions; to undermine the used-book sales. But you can take advantage of this undermining by buying old editions incredibly cheap. Don't fret over not having the solutions. If you are not confident that you have solved a problem correctly, then you probably haven't. If that is the situation, it is not helpful to look at the solution, because then you will learn only how to solve that particularly problem, not the class of problems that it typifies. If you can't satisfy yourself that you can find the right answer, or don't know where to start, the very very best step to take is to visit your professor or graduate student instructor during office hours. Moreover, going to those office hours you are likely to meet someone else struggling to work the material. The best way to study is this: work really hard trying to solve the problem.  If you fail, then find someone else.  Don't ask, "How do you do this?" Instead describe your approach. Ask, it that the way you would do it? Do that, and your friend does much more than give you the answer. He may correct your mistakes, your misimpression, your misevaluations of the physics and how to use it.Find such a friend and you'll discover that you can often help him as much as he helps you.

The recovery is to fill the void and to find a new way to allocate those resources properly. Recessions occur when there is a mis-allocation of resources, not when there is a fall short of demand. People do not need a reason to spend money, as demand is virtually endless. If customers are not buying, there is most likely a reason why.
