One girl was very talented and was one of the best in my grade, but she didn’t want to do NHS because she thought it was a waste of time, as she participated in many other, more meaningful activities. She ended up getting a full scholarship to a top liberal arts college. One of my friends didn’t make the GPA cut off (he was lazy, but very intelligent), but ironically got into UChicago, a school known for its academic rigor. Similarly, one girl got into NHS but was kicked out for not maintaining the GPA requirement the next year, but also got into UChicago.Because you have participated in several campaigns outside of school, colleges won’t care that you didn’t participate in NHS. It’s not like college admissions offers have a checklist, in which NHS is an item; you have demonstrated your altruistic passion for community service in an even more meaningful way and colleges will note that. That makes you stand out a lot more than someone who just did NHS and claimed they loved serving the community, while that was their only service activity.
