By the time the government lets you file as an independent student(age 24) you may have found an even better pattern that doesn’t involve college at all.

There’s nothing about the FAFSA that is exclusive or required for US citizens living abroad. The FAFSA is simply the most commonly used application form for student aid applications GENERALLY, and almost every college and university asks for it rather than go to the trouble of inventing their own - even though, in fact, many of them DO have their own application, and STILL want to see a FAFSA.What you actually should do, is go to the website OF THE COLLEGES you are interested in, and check the parts where financial aid is discussed, and see what they want to see.Probably 90% or more will want a FAFSA, maybe 10% will want their own form IN ADDITION to the FAFSA, and a certain number will also want to see the CSS profile.So fill out the FAFSA online. There is part of it which asks for the codes (every college has one) for the colleges you want to have them send the form to. You can send a FAFSA to TEN colleges when you fill out the FAFSA in the first place - AND, you can go back later, and add more colleges.Fill out the FAFSA. The one for fall semester 2018- spring 2019 is available to be filled out beginning, I believe, around October 2017. Most colleges want to have that in their possession by January 2018.Unless, of course, you are independently wealthy, and can afford to pay for college by yourself.Other notes:you fill out the FAFSA every year for the next college year.you can link to the IRS website to pre-fill in a lot of the information the FAFSA asks for (this saves time).you need your own tax return data (if you have such a thing yet) and your parents’ information also.It looks intimidating, but it really isn’t terribly difficult - I would suggest going through the FAFSA website and reading most of the information there before you start, because there are various documents and numbers you will need to have to fill out the form, and it is easier if you have collected all that stuff before you sit down to fill the form out.By the way - I see this idea often and it is wrong - ‘FAFSA’ does NOT give anybody any money. It is an APPLICATION FOR AID. The college you apply to and get accepted at will look at your application, your FAFSA form, all the other required forms you supply to them, and THEN the Financial Aid office will decide a) whether to offer you an aid package and b) what that aid package will contain.It could be a mix of scholarships (great!), grants (wonderful!), student loans of various kinds (read the fine print) and perhaps an offer of work-study. A Limited Liability Company (LLC) is business structure that provides the limited liability protection features of a corporation and the tax efficiencies and operational flexibility of a partnership.Unlike shareholders in a corporation, LLCs are not taxed as a separate business entity. Instead, all profits and losses are "passed through" the business to each member of the LLC. LLC members report profits and losses on their personal federal tax returns, just like the owners of a partnership would.The owners of an LLC have no personal liability for the obligations of the LLC. An LLC is the entity of choice for a businesses seeking to flow through losses to its investors because an LLC offers complete liability protection to all its members. The basic requirement for forming an Limited Liability Company are:Search your business name - before you form an LLC, you should check that your proposed business name is not too similar to another LLC registered with your state's Secretary of StateFile Articles of Organization - the first formal paper you will need file with your state's Secretary of State to form an LLC. This is a necessary document for setting up an LLC in many states. Create an Operating Agreement - an agreement among LLC members governing the LLC's business, and member's financial and managerial rights and duties. Think of this as a contract that governs the rules for the people who own the LLC. Get an Employer Identification Number (EIN) - a number assigned by the IRS and used to identify taxpayers that are required to file various business tax returns. You can easily file for an EIN online if you have a social security number. If you do not have a social security number or if you live outsides of United States, ask a business lawyer to help you get one.File Statement of Information - includes fairly basic information about the LLC that you need to file with your state’s Secretary of State every 2 years. Think of it as a company census you must complete every 2 years.Search and Apply for Business Licenses and Permits - once your business is registered, you should look and apply for necessary licenses and permits you will need from the county and city where you will do business. The counselor’s job to be an advocate of the client. The client’s job is to be open to being helped. When they cooperate with each other, the client is empowered to make healthy life decisions.If you've never had counseling, this is what you can typically expect. You’ll be asked to fill out confidential forms for your file, or the counselor will ask and record them for you. Basically, it’s a crash course on who you are: biographical data, socio-economic background, cultural history, family history, medical history, relationships, spirituality (and whether or not you wish to incorporate your beliefs into your treatment), etc. The counselor needs to know in order to better help you. You won’t be forced if you’re not ready, but if you don’t give out any information, you limit the counselor’s ability to help you. We get what we give.There will be a mini-orientation on what you can expect (e.g. confidentiality, no judgmental or offensive words/behavior, etc.) and of course, what the counselor expects from you in return (“house rules”). This will vary depending on where you go, but the basics are the same—honesty, full attention, openness, manners, etc. This will also be the time to discuss administrative stuff such as schedules, payment options, etc.The counselor should inform you that there will be instances when confidentiality must be bsignNowed, such as if you mention a crime you or someone else committed, or if you pose a real threat to yourself or others, or if you yourself are in danger.After the briefing, the counselor will askwhat brought you there: your problematic situation or the person(s) causing you difficulty. I guess this is where it can feel like an interrogation, because you will be asked the what, when where, who, and how. But it should not feel like one if your counselor is doing their job right.This is where you get to unload all of it. Vent as much or as little as you want. Ideally, this session is the safest place you can be yourself, where you won’t be condemned for what saying what you think, judged for what you did, or reprimanded for how you feel. The counselor may ask follow-up questions for better context, but other than that, the floor is yours.Following this is the initial intervention. (Don’t be intimidated by that term; it simply refers to the counselor’s “first aid.”) How your counselor responds will be specific to your situation.The counselor will then set another appointment with you, and in some instances, refer you. (Case-to-case. Could be to a psychiatrist if you show symptoms of clinical depression, a retreat house if you show symptoms of burnout, or even the authorities if you or others around you need protection.Think of it this way. You trip over a ball and fall to the ground. You’ll be treated initially for the scrapes and bruises, given antibiotics to ward off infection, maybe given pain medication if it’s that bad. Depending on the severity of your injury, you may have to undergo tests such as an x-ray.)If this all seems like a tedious process, I assure you that this first session is simple and straightforward. Before I started my training, I was a client. All I had to do was fill out a form, answer a few questions, and talk about it. I felt better being listened to.Succeeding sessions would be spent on your goals—what you would like to achieve, and how you can work with your counselor towards achieving them.I hope this helps.
