If the governor of North Carolina needed to fill a vacant Senate seat, who would he choose to fill it?
Someone who swears he’s a great Christian, has a perfect family, great experience. When filled, he’ll be another confederate from an otherwise beautiful state.
How good is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Computer Science department for undergraduates?
I am answering this question not as a CS student but as a former internal recruiter who visited many schools in the area to recruit software developers out of school. Here was my impression of the major schools we recruited from in the area:UNC - Impressive and large program that offered both BS and MS degrees in CS. I had great experiences with their career services and professors and students coming out of the programs had solid practical programming experience, not just theoretical. Students got very high salaries coming out and it was competitive to hire them. Overall, this is a very good CS program.Elon - A fantastic CS program, especially considering it's a smaller, liberal arts University. I think the reason I had so much success recruiting great developers at Elon is that their classes are really small and their curriculum is highly practical rather than theoretical. Offers aren't as high or as competitive as UNC, but the students coming out of the school were better programmers. Their career services is also the best to work with. NC State - Huge program, also offers masters and PhD. They do a great job of hooking students up with local employers but their program is very theoretical. The students coming out of the program we're often disappointing in their programming abilities at first compared to other schools. Duke - Recruiting developers at Duke was largely a disappointment. Their students had high GPAs and looked impressive on paper but had poor practical skills and were unable to work as a team. At first I thought this was an anomaly but I have since worked at several companies with Duke CS grads with the exact same result. Their career services was very unorganized and difficult to work with from a recruiting perspective. I constantly got the feeling that they felt they didn't have to work to get their student's placed because they are 'Duke.'I didn't work as closely with ECU or UNC-W since I am based out of Raleigh, NC but I would peg those school's programs as similar to NC State in that they are large and tend to be more theoretical than practical. At the end of the day, all of these programs had some awesome candidates and all of them had some bad ones. What you put into your education is what you will get out of it, but this is my big picture opinion. Hope it helps!
How can I fill out Google's intern host matching form to optimize my chances of receiving a match?
I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team. Before the interviews, try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume. You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview) but it's worth it of course.
How Strong is University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's computer science department when compared to Stanford MIT, UT Austin, UMich?
I don't go to UNC but I've interacted with faculty there and have several friends who have taken CS courses at UNC. My impression is that you will get a solid (undergrad) CS education at UNC and going there won't close any doors, but if you're a superstar the department won't be able to challenge and nurture you to the extent that the other schools on your list will be able to.
