Well KVPY interview is something on which I still laugh whenever I think about it .I Gave kvpy SA steam and I had a decent score in aptitude test nearabout 72.So my interview was on 5th February 2016 at JEE office ,IIT Delhi .I remember how me and my friends were thinking that the JEE papers are set here and we were wishing if we could get JEE papers before the exam was conducted from there :PSo mine was the evening slot 3–8 pm. I signNowed there at 2:30 with my parents,got my documents verified and waited for my turn .My turn was second among 50 people .the First guy entered at 3:15 and he took a very long time to come out . I still remember he came out at 4:10 or so . I was pretty much scared that what would have they asked him in around an hour or so .looking at his face it seemed that it went pretty bad for him. My name was called, i entered the room and saw a panel of 5 people sitting around a parabolic table and a white board placed at the focus of the parabola .The thing which amused me was that they were having lunch out there . On the table there were fruits,juice,dal,curry,chapattis and cold drinks .it seemed pretty weird to me but I greeted the panel and they asked me to sit down . They asked me to have some orange juice which I politely abandoned but they kept insisting so I had to accept it . While I was having my orange juice the panel was reading out my self appraisal form .They asked me about my extra curricular activities which I had written . As I had written my favourite subject was maths it was pretty natural that they would start the interview from it . I was directed to a lady professor probably in her 30’s.Lets call her AA: Are you comfortable with combinatorics?Me: Yes mam .A: Ok so tell me the number of squares on a 8*8 chess board?Me: Did it quite easilyA: Ok now the number of parallelograms ?Me: Again did itA: your approach is right but there exists an alternative which is a bit shorter .can you think of something?I thought for 1 minute but couldn't get it .A: ok tell me what do you need to make a parallelogram?Me:parallel lines! . I got what she was asking . I did it quite easilyA: Very good . Tell me what is ((n)(n+1)/2)^2.Me: it's the square of sum of first n natural numberA: Good, any other thing related to cubes ?Me: Yes mam, it is the sum of cubes of first n natural numbers.A: Very good . Can you derive this ?Me: did it quite easily with two different methods one by mathematical induction other by difference methodA: Very goodShe looked very satisfied . I was then directed to a male professor probably in his 30’sLets call him BB: So prakhar I would like to ask you some questions from chemistry . Draw the titration curve for strong acid strong base and weak acid strong baseMe: drew both of them ( inner me-thank god I revised ionic equilibrium )B:good now directing me to a cold drink which was kept on the table .what does it containMe:Carbonic Acid.B: good , suppose I give you this cold-drink . What would you do if you want calculate concentration of acid in thisMe- Naturally a titrationB- Good now draw a pH curve with let's say NaOHMe- drew the same strong base weak acid curveB-there is something wrong with this curve can you figure out ?I couldn't think of anythingB- you won't be able to detect the end point because of curve. Can you make suitable changes in the titration curveI was thinking hard but couldn't get itB: No problem boy you have done really well .Next I was directed to a lady professor probably in her 40’s . Lets call her CC: ok prakhar enough of standing now you can sit down .I was relieved for some time as she asked me to have some water and relax nowC: Would you like to be questioned about biology?Me: umm well I haven't studied biology much .C: only a little bit? You tell me the topic?Me: cell theory( only topic of bio I prepared for interview)C: what is a cell?Me: recited the definitionC: what are cell organelles and give functions of some of them?Me: answered easily . I highlighted points like mitochondria is power house of cell , chloroplast is kitchen etc .C: very good . You mentioned about immunity and diseases in one of your answers just now .so what is a diseaseMe- answered easilyC: good . Name 3 kinds of each bacterial and viral diseasesMe- answered easilyC: very good .which bacteria causes the 3 diseases mentioned aboveMe- Answered easilyC;which bacterium causes cholera?Me- thinking hard could not get it .(although I remembered it but forgot)C: Very good. You said you don't know about biology but you did soooo well in it . I politely said I would like to do a major in computer science . I don't have any specific institutions in my mind yet.Then all of them told me very good and I can leave nowI came out happily and met my parents. My father told me you just took 15 minutes! People use cars and trucks to run down crowds of people all the time. Again, it’s not the weapon used that is the problem. It is the PERSON that is the problem. Stop being ignorant on the issue. At my Safeway in Spokane Wa. on Francis and Monroe. Just head up to customer service and ask for a club card if you would like to fill out a piece of paper with your info. And your card will be activated on your first purchase when scanned at the register. If you just want a card head to any register and your checker will go over to customer service and get you one. When you come to my register i’ll gladly grab you a club card if you would like one but i recommenced that you don’t fill out the in store paper but instead go to Safeway - Official Site or my preferred method is to call 1–877-SAFEWAY. The paper method can take up to 8 weeks or more before your info is up dated and you can use your phone number at the register instead of using your club card. If you forget the info is on your receipt or ask an Safeway employee for help.

Honestly.. a bunch of non-technical skills.  SAs are a unique sort, and the very best are distinguished in a few ways.  You need to learn to trust yourself.  You're going to break things, you're going to tank systems, and you're going to figure out how to screw up in fantastic new ways.  You need to learn that you are capable of digging yourself out of whatever deep dark hole you've crawled into.  I simply cannot trust a "senior SA" who claims to have never fantastically screwed something up.You need to learn how to learn from your mistakes.  This might seem obvious, but I've worked with a good number of people that would continue to do the same dumb thing over and over... and constantly complain about it each and every time.  These are people who were for whatever reason incapable of learning from their own mistakes.You very much need to learn how not to panic.  Things are going to break down and blame (justified or otherwise) is going to fall on your head.  People will refuse to care why something is broken, all they will care about is that you haven't (yet) fixed it.  You need to build the ability to shrug off the blame and work the problem at hand.You need to learn how to manage authority.  At times, you will be issued utterly rediculous requests that put the entire organization at risk in ways the requestor cannot possibly comprehend.  People are frequently going to pull their rank/authority card.  You need to learn how to tell people "no" in a way that communicates "I'm saying no in the best interests of the organization".  This is a very hard skill to learn.I submit that all competent SAs fill out their technical knowledge.  These are some traits which, in my opinion, distinguish great SAs from merely competent SAs.
